Dreamz 3 - 2 AMKSS

Goals:
35min: Fongguan
48min: Aik Meng
60min: Benjamin

Dreamz enters 2009 unbeaten in previous 4 games, from which they have scored more than 20 goals. The final scoreline on their first match of 2009 doesn’t fairly justify Dreamz dominance.

This is a match that Dreamz should won by a more comfortable margin. Though they failed to fire on all cylinders, Dreamz have acquired the knack of grinding out victories in pressing circumstances.

Credit also goes to the AMKSS who refused to buckle. At 3-0 up on the hour mark, Dreamz should have cruised home. Instead, they reached the final whistle rattled as 2opportunistic strikes by AMKSS breathed new life into the contest and forced Dream to fight and cling on for a win.

First half

Dreamz starts the game in a familiar 4-3-3 attack formation.

Though it was a slow start, the positive thing to take out of the first half is the fact that Dreamz created many opportunities and have many shots on target.

Dreamz is fast to take control of the pace of the game. Their skill supremacy is evident as most ball play is in the opponent half.

AMKSS is quick to close in and didn’t give Dreams midfield much space. Often Desmond is surrounded by more than 2 players while he looks to tread his pass to the 3 man strike-force of Fong Guan, Aik Meng and Elvin.

Dreamz persistency is rewarded in the 35min when Fong Guan out-muscled the defense to score from a through ball by Colin.

With Colin stamping his usual authority in midfield and excellent defensive partnership of Jun Wei and Guan Quan has limit AMKSS from creating any chances at Dreamz half.

Second half

Dreamz started the second half with the same commanding pace to the first.

Aik Meng doubled Dreamz’s lead with superb skill with a shot from outside the right edge of the penalty box that curved into the left far post, giving the keeper no chance.

Dreamz's leads were further extended shortly through a corner by Desmond. Though Junwei has the opportunity to score, he unselfishly presently the chance to Ben, who powerfully head home.

And although AMKSS was put under intense pressure, they soon started to confront Dreamz all over the pitch. A free kick at the edge of the penalty box was well saved by Joo. However, hope of clean sheet was not fulfill in this match. On 72min, an well taken free kick on the right side of the penalty box by the opponent creped under out-stretched arm of Joo.

Dreamz commitment to attack left them vulnerable at the back. As a cross was delivered from a attack down the left wing, their striker timed his run perfectly to head in powerfully, leaving Joo no chance.

Another potential match with AMKSS awaits as both teams looking to improve in their displays.

Direction:Bus: 13, 74, 88, 130, 133 along AMK Ave 6
MRT: AMK MRT

About the team:
Similar to Dreamz, AMKSS is formed by school friends coming together to play soccer, average age of 24.
They have been playing on this field regularly for the past 18 months.

They play a traditional 4-4-2.

The central defense is marshalled by their Vice Captain and they like to push their defense up. However, their full back is weak.

Midfield play tend to focus at the centre and is quick to close in on their opponent. They are weak at commanding the game.

It's not difficult to dominate this match from the midfield that will limit their chances.

Look forward to see you on Saturday for the match

Dreamz 5 – 1 Team Dyanmo

Significant:
1) Dreamz dedicated this match to Ben and Yi Mei as we celebrate and rejoice in their engagement.
2) Debut match for Elvin and Xiang Jing as they completed their transfer for an undisclosed fee.

Dreamz displayed an impressive and commanding play today as the players produced an attacking masterclass to secure a victory in dedication to Ben and Yimei.

Dreamz’s best player on the pitch was Benjamin, whose industrious effort helps to provide inspirational passes that led to goals and capped the day performance with a marvelous goal that will definitely be a strong contender for the Goal of the season.

Dreamz started the match with a new 4-3-3 formation. Although Dreamz took some time to get used to this formation, they were quick to gain the control of the match.

Dreamz scored early in the game through a corner superbly taken by Ben. It was flipped on by Desmond to the far post and Fongguan was there to head it in, giving Dream a well-deserved early lead

Motivated by the opening goal, Dreamz continue to push forward and was soon rewarded with 2 goals in quick succession as Fongguan completed his hat trick.

The first was a loose ball that was converted into goal as Fong Guan was at his potent best to side foot his strike passed the Dyanmo’s keeper. Soon Dreamz found them in an unassailable 3-0 lead through a quick counter attack by Dreamz. It was Ben’s defence splitting pass that found Fongguan who coolly finished it with a lovely lob over the keeper.

The play of the match came 5 minutes before the half-time whistle when Ben displayed his superb piece of individual play that took him passed several opponents. Although push to the corner of the pitch, he was not to be out done and managed to produce a superb curling shoot into the top right corner of the post, leaving the keeper stranded with no chance.

Second half began with the same tempo, but Dreamz unfortunately conceded an early goal. A wicked deflection deceived Joo and was thus not able to judge the flight of the ball accurately. Not wanting to give the opponents any chance to come back, Dreamz continue to attack. Desmond went closed several times, only for both posts to stop him. However, his hard work and understanding with Kok Hong soon allow himself to score a well taken goal just inside the penalty box.

The match ended with a 5-1 score line. Dreamz would like to officially delicate all the 5 goals to Ben and Yimei. We wish them a lifetime of happiness and when the big day finally arrives, we will all be there to help out. :)

DreamZ announced new signing..

The board of director after searching in the transfer market had announced their new signing for this season. They just put pen to paper to complete the free transfer of Tan Zhixiang to DreamZ.

'We have been negotiating for a few weeks now and I am glad that the deal was closed. You know what negotiations are like nowadays. They are never easy,' Board of Director told reporters.

Zhixiang actually played for DreamZ during one of the match last season and his signing will no doubt be a boast to the frontline of DreamZ. He can play anywhere down the flank and also as a striker. Packed with a powerful right leg shot and good vision, his signing also mean danger to Fongguan, the current top scorer of the team. However, an interview with him show that he is quite optimistic about the future and not afraid the face the challenge for first team place from Zhixiang.

The new signing is set to make his offical debut for the team in the match against Cherith Baptist Church at Beatty Secondary School on 20th April.

12/01/2007 Saturday Match

DreamZ 9 - 4 Opponent (Halftime 2-1)

The team would like to thank Des who had been co-ordinating matches and outings all these while for the team. Especially today, the initial opponent was not this team and we had to change opponent at a late timing due to the absence of a field. Still Des persisted on and found an opponent.

DreamZ would also like to thank the opponent for making this match possible, Wilson, PQ and Leslie for helping us, Daniel who had to rush down after his recall in camp and last but not least, every member in the team for the friendship.

Significance of this match:
1) DreamZ 1st match in New Red Jersey (finally after 10 yrs)
2) Welcoming match for new team member - Aik Meng since joining DreamZ
3) Finally DreamZ has a number 10 after 10 yrs - Aik Meng

Starting line-up: GK - Joo (12), CB - Hong (11), CB - Leslie (Guest), RB - Keat (8), LB - Jun (15)
DM - Colin (5), AM - Des (7), RM - Lyndon (9), LM - Ben (13), SS - Aik Meng (10),
CF - Guan (20)
Subs: Wilson (Guest), PQ (Guest), Daniel (14)

DreamZ won their debutant match of 2008 in their new red jersey with an encouraging 9-4 scoreline.

As DreamZ looked forward to start the New Year with a good note, pre-match mood was filled with excitement. Although scoring goals and keeping clean sheets in a match is important, DreamZ were also not forgetting that they wanted a good workout and enjoying the time when we play together.

The team had just started their 1st Saturday soccer last week and it looked to make an impact on this match. Overall the team played team football with lots of understanding and good passing. Credits to Aik Meng, Wilson, PQ and Leslie who looked like they had already played 10 years with us and fitted comfortably into the team.

1st half:

DreamZ dominated the 1st half with the defence almost pushing their line to the opponent's half. With the influential GQ missing in the defence line for this match, Hong and Leslie had to form a partnership in centre defense position. However, they had no trouble understanding each other. Jun and Keat supported the wingers often to put more option into attack. The midfield was exceptionally dominating with Colin holding the centre of the park. Des troubled the opponent with his unpredictable passes. Ben and Lyndon were making countless tireless runs down the 2 flanks. Aik Meng's ball control and skills make it difficult for the opponent. Guan was a constant threat to them with his size and quick acceleration. PQ and Wilson who came in during random subs were blending well with the team's strategy. All these forced the opponent to be able to break only on the counter.

However, the opponent's defence was resilient. Although DreamZ was dominating, the backline had to make 2 last ditch tackles and worse, conceded the first goal of the day from an opponent's opportunistic strike in the 20th min. It was a chip from out of nowhere that surprised Joo. (DreamZ 0-1 Opponent)

DreamZ refused to let this goal affect their morale. They knew they could do it and continued to push up and attack aggressively. One of the best chances came from a free kick on the left edge of the opponent's penalty box. Des, after some quick discussion with Keat, decided to try a "Steven Gerard". The free kick rocketed across the goal mouth, shaving the far post for a goal kick. Guan reacted first and had the chance to just touch the ball using his head, hair, nose, tongue or whatever to bring it into the net but the speed of the ball was just too fast. A great effort from Des though.

The equalising goal finally came after 10 mins. Holding the ball in the midfield, Des pick out Guan with a superb pin-point long pass which Guan did well to place the ball past the reach of their goalkeeper. (DreamZ 1-1 Opponent)

This served as an encouragement to DreamZ as they continue to fight for every loose ball. There were several opportunities for DreamZ to take the lead in the match but the opponent's defense and goalkeeper was equally up to the task.

DreamZ second goal came, ironically, from the opponent's corner kick. The corner kick was intercepted by Hong and he initiated a counter attack from defense. After some triangular passing between Guan, Keat and Hong, Hong got the final ball and make a long dash down from outside his own penalty box to the opponent's half. Some tackles flew in along the way and Hong lost the ball just outside the opponent's penalty box after a tackle from behind. Hong was deciding whether to fall to earn a freekick when he saw that the opponent's last man and goalkeeper had miscommunicated and lost the ball too! The loose ball ended up with the smiling Guan who was supporting Hong throughout the run and he puts the ball easily into the net with no one to obstruct him, increasing his goal tally. (DreamZ 2-1 Opponent)

The game was more open towards the ending of the 1st-half. Both team continued to attack and but there were no further goals as DreamZ brought a well-deserved 2- 1 lead into the break.

2nd half:

The second half saw both teams started brightly with end-to-end stuff. Daniel came in for the injured Jun at LB position. Guan completed his hat-trick after 5 mins from a goal-mouth scramble and put DreamZ into a comfortable lead. The bad news here is Guan couldn't take the ball home cause' the ball belonged to the opponent. (DreamZ 3-1 Opponent)

Guan was in superb form and just after a while, he scored DreamZ 4th goal. Hong made a tackle in defense and he brought the ball up to the midfield line which he picked out Guan with a long pass. Guan controlled the ball with his chest and directed the ball into the net with the goal at his mercy (DreamZ 4-1 Opponent)

DreamZ took the opportunity to further explore the weakness of the opponent which Des's superb long pass found both Wilson and Daniel unmarked at the far post. It was Wilson who got to the ball and he placed it coolly into the net with a great first touch. (DreamZ 5-1 Opponent)

With such a commanding result, DreamZ had the freedom to try out the versatility of the players. Playing some of their players in different position. This is probably DreamZ current greatest assets - A team of players who are able to play in many different positions.

The opponent had not given up yet and they went in search for a goal which a through pass plus a cool finish past the keeper helped them regain their morale. (DreamZ 5-2)

DreamZ wasn't ready to just sit back and defend their lead. Des, who must had been watching a lot of "Steven Gerard goals", let flew a shot from outside the penalty box which dipped beautifully over the keeper and into the net. (DreamZ 6-2 Opponent)

Since it was a live match with no video recording, Des, who was also in scintillating form decided that his goal should be replayed with his own effort. After 5 mins, he did the exact same replica of his 1st goal (this time with a short hesitation in between). He dipped another powerful shot over the the keeper for the second time and into the net. (DreamZ 7-2 Opponent)

The opponent pushed up a new striker who was fast and strong. His speed and determination saw him slide a great pass into the net for a goal. (DreamZ 7-3 Opponent)

Robust and speedy runs from the Ben and Lyndon were also the opponent's main threat. After a sudden burst of acceleration from the right wing, Lyndon powered a low shot towards goal but the keeper was equal to the effort. A great shot and a great save! Ben made some determined runs down the left wing and after recovering the ball by himself from 2 tackles, he sent a shot and dipped over the keeper. The keeper was beaten but the shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced out of goal. However, Jun who was playing upfront, was the first to the loose ball and sent a half-volley into the opponent's net. (DreamZ 8-3 Opponent)

The new striker of the opponent was again at his best to direct a great cross with a header into
DreamZ's goal. (Dreamz 8-4 Opponent)

Guan, who scored DreamZ's first goal, rounded up the match with the final goal of the day. Daniel found Guan unmarked at the far pole with a pin-point cross which Guan, with his back to the goal, scored his fifth goal with a superb header which left the keeper no chance. (DreamZ 9-4 Opponent)

Man of the Match: Everyone is man of the match for our debut match in 2008. I was playing in centre-back and had the best view to see that each and every team member put in 100% effort not only for the match, but for each other.

It was certainly an encouraging start of the New Year for DreamZ. What was more encouraging was the passion and friendship we had. The great passion and friendship were the main reasons why:

-team members like Quan, Keat, Des, Jun and Eugene who live far away, come down without complains at 7am for soccer at St. Wilfred.
-Ashton, who couldn't play cause' of his back injuries, came down to support us and help us with the photography
-Daniel, who had to spend an expensive cab fare to join us for second half after his recall
-PQ, Wilson and Leslie came down specially to help DreamZ for this match.
